  • Entry requirements Who is this course for? Young people aged 16-18. What do I need to get on the course? You must satisfy the general entry criteria for A-level courses which are based on your GCSE results general entry requirements for AS-levels In addition, to study this subject, you must achieve at least a grade C in GCSE English Language and a grade C in one other written subject (e.g. English literature, a humanities subject or a science).
  • Academic title AS Media Studies after the first year of study. A-level Media Studies after the second year.
  • Course description What is this course about?
    This course is about the media. You+ll be discovering who produces it, who consumes it and what messages and values are found within it. It+s about analysing texts to find hidden meanings, and then putting what you have learned into practice and producing `media products+ for yourselves.

    What will I study?

        * A range of media including print, film and television.

        * The technical construction of certain texts including television programmes, and films. You will compare texts paying particular attention to issues of representation.

        * Media industries and how they function, along with an examination of new technology and its impact on media.

        * How to construct a practical production, which may include an extract from a film or a piece of print work. Don+t worry if you haven+t done this sort of thing before we will give you all the training and help you will need.


    You will need good language and study skills, as well as an ability to work in groups. Courses that are good to study alongside Media Studies include: Sociology Psychology , English Literature and Photography.,

    What can I do after the course?
    Close to 80% of our A-level students progress to Higher Education. Alternatively, you could choose to enter employment.
