FdA Fashion Design and Marketing

  • Objectives This course is ideal if you have a strong interest in fashion design, twinned with a curiosity in how to make and market a product within the realms of the industry. We aim to produce students who are very aware of the different market levels and can adapt their design thinking accordingly. We are looking for confident individuals who like to be challenged in both their conceptual, literal and analytical thinking. You must also be able to communicate your ideas through drawing as well as attaining high levels of garment construction.
  • Entry requirements You should: * have 1 A level at Grade C or above supported by 4 other subjects at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent qualifications * have a BTEC National Diploma, NVQ level 3 or AVCE double award in a fashion related subject supported by 4 other subjects at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent qualifications or * have successfully completed a 1 year Foundation Diploma in Art and Design or * have successfully completed a relevant Access course, 48 credits at level 3 or equivalent qualification or work experience * Evidence of portfolio will be required at the interview * have IELTS level 5.5 or equivalent if you are an International student / EU and English is not your first language

    Programme

    During the first year, you are introduced to the basic principles and the inter-relationship between subject areas, which could include: fashion marketing, design and technology, the fashion design process, cultural studies, and information and communications.

    At the end of the first year and across the summer period, you will be supported and encouraged to gain work experience within industry. Though not assessed, it is a part of the course that will enable you to form links with potential employers. To build on your potential work experiences, increased emphasis is placed on the industrial context of second year units, through simulated work based learning that will consolidate all of your previous learning from the first year.

    To complete the second year, you will produce a personal development project, which provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate the range of knowledge and skills acquired on the course.
