This course is offered jointly by Heriot-Watt University and Glasgow University, and is recognised as one of the premier courses in the UK for offering advanced up-to-date training in the theory and practice of geotechnicalengineering. The two Universities offer complementary expertise and the course has the support of geotechnical consultants and contractors in Scotland and England.
The direct role of industry in the course is threefold: through industrial-based projects, through input to the taught modules via a series of case studies, and/or special seminars, and/or field/site visits. The course may be taken on a part-time basis and will therefore appeal to practising engineers who can attend one day per week.
Funded places are available through Industrial Scholarships, SAAS Awards, European Social Fund and Panasonic Trust Fellowships.
The course consists of a series of 8 taught modules, plus a project dissertation. The taught modules take place in the first two terms and are examined during the first week of the second and third terms. The MSc degree programme can be taken either full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 yrs).
