Entry requirements
Entry Requirements 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent in English or a cognate subject. Other relevant qualifcations and/or experience may be considered. Students with English as a second language are require to have an IELTS score of 7 minimum (or a recognised equivalent English language qualification).

Course description
Introduction
This course is ideal for students wishing to develop and extend their knowledge and critical skills in the study of literature. It follows on naturally from an undergraduate degree in English Literature or a cognate subject involving the critical analysis of literary texts.
You will learn practical research skills and techniques and study taught modules in a range of different topics which are directly related to the research expertise of the academic staff teaching the module.
All students are allocated a supervisor for their Master's dissertation, which allows you to put into practice the advanced research skills and critical concepts developed over the course of the MA programme.

Teaching and Assessment
Teaching is by lecture, seminar and workshop activities. All teaching is supported by opportunities for individual feedback and consultation with staff. You are encouraged to participate in classes by a variety of teaching methods, including group and pair work and the use of presentations.
Assessment varies across a range of types, including essays, projects and dissertations. All work is moderated and subject to second marking and external examining.
Teaching quality in English was highly commended in the most recent externally assessed subject review.
Career Opportunities
This course is intended to enable graduates to distinguish themselves in the job marketplace by demonstrating ability for autonomous and original thinking and decision making.
