MA-Diploma Applied Linguistics

  • Objectives Advanced training in applied linguistics for professionals with language interests – typically but not exclusively language teachers.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements 2:1 Honours degree or overseas equivalent, or some qualification such as Certificate of Education which can be accepted in lieu of a degree. International students must take a suitable language test, eg IELTS (minimum score 6.5) or TOEFL (minimum score 575; computerised version 232).

    Four optional modules selected from:

    -English for Specific Purposes
    -Theory and Practice of Language Teaching
    -Language Planning in Education
    -Second Language Acquisition
    -Phonetics and Phonology for Language Teaching
    -History of English
    -Language Testing
    -Discourse and Genre Analysis
    -Advanced Research Methods
    -Dissertation.

    Diploma:
    As MA but without dissertation.
