MA in Educational Studies

  • Objectives The MA Educational Studies is intended to provide teachers and others with opportunities for extended academic study through which to develop and strengthen their practice. The course explores the relationship between theory and practice in schools and colleges.
  • Entry requirements Candidates are normally expected to have at least a lower second class honours degree, but applications from those with professional experience relevant to graduate study in their main field of interest are also welcome.

    All students take four modules from a list of those available. Students are required to take the Foundation Research Methods in Education module and may take three other taught modules and a dissertation/project of 20,000 words.

    - Oracy: Developing speaking and listening across the curriculum
    - Theory, research and practice in teaching reading, writing and spelling
    - Foreign Language teaching pedagogy and methodology
    - Assessment for Learning

    Students select two of the above modules as their first and second choices. Students may take one 30 CAT point module from other Masters degrees offered by the Institute of Education.

    All modules are subject to availability and demand.

    Assessment
    Students are required to submit written assignments equivalent to 5,000 words in each module, and the 20,000-word dissertation/project.
