  • Objectives A primary aim of the course is to provide a collaborative learning context, within which early years practitioners and managers can reflect on and develop their professional practice. You will have opportunity to make an in-depth examination of current debates relating to policy and practice in early years care and education.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements The normal entry requirement is a degree or a certificate in education and some relevant professional experience. Exceptions can be made for non-graduates who can demonstrate relevant professional experience.

  • Course description This course is about national and international policy and practice for educating and caring for children from birth to six years old.

    An introductory module introduces a range of approaches to the observation of young children as learners and explores underpinning models of learning.

    A second module focuses on children playing and learning across a range of early years settings and includes a critical examination of current curriculum models.

    The course emphasises young children as learners in families, communities and early years settings. It considers research into the development of children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive knowledge, understanding and skills. It also includes consideration of the key area of dispositions for learning.
