  • Academic title MA/Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Heritage
  • Course description Course modules
The course explores the conceptual, practical and technological opportunities and issues of new media in the museum and heritage sector. Set in the established practices of cultural preservation and communication, six core modules develop the changing technological context of heritage, the relationships between material and virtual culture, the development of digital collections, communication and e-learning, audiences, design and marketing, and sustainable development. The course draws upon case studies, and the global resource of digital resources, as well exploiting online activities. Students will also be encouraged to develop skills in such areas as database management, multimedia and web design.

    Teaching and assessments methods
Students undertake a programme of supported, self-directed study. Most of the materials necessary to complete the course are mailed to the students, with further materials available online. Support is provided by a team of specialist tutors. An optional summer school offers opportunities for face-to-face interaction and networking. The assessment of the course is based on a combination of individual and collaborative assignments. Students who achieve the required standard and who wish to work towards the Masters degree, complete a dissertation.
