  • Objectives To provide a thorough grounding in the study of history, including practical training in research skills. Students can specialise or generalise as much or as little as they choose from the wide range of option modules on offer.

    -Dissertation

    -Early Medieval Kingship: Ideal and Reality
    -The Crusades in the Eastern Mediterranean
    -Court and Culture in 14th Century England
    -Reformations
    -Versions of Enlightenment
    -The Rise of the Nazis
    -The Holocaust
    -Modern Germany: The Divided Country
    -The Women’s Suffrage Movements in the United States and Britain 1840s to 1920s
    -Communication and Politics: Britain and USA 1890 to present
    -Conservative Century: the Conservative Party in British Politics 1902 to 1997
    -The Russian Revolution
    -Court and Politics in France under Louis XVI 1774-89
    -Students can also choose one option module from approved MA courses in the Faculties of Arts, Education and Continuing Studies and the Social Sciences.

    Teaching and assessment methods
    The course will be delivered by lecture and seminar. Each module is assessed by a variety of nonexamination methods, often one extended essay of 4,000-5,000 words. A dissertation is required for MA students of 15,000-20,000 words
