  • Objectives This course develops management capabilities and aims to help graduates progress into management roles. Or graduates have gone on to develop management careers in a wide range of blue-chip companies and in the public sector. You will also have the opportunity to return to complete an MBA at the University of Hertfordshire after gaining relevant experience.

  • Course description If you are a graduate in any discipline, this course gives you the chance to gain a management qualification. The course combines theoretical and practical elements, and allows you to specialise in the area most relevant to you. You will have access to our research expertise, helping you develop the knowledge, analytical tools and skills you will need in a management position in the public or private sector.

    The course gives you the advanced level knowledge, skills and understanding you will need in a management post. It will help you to expand your knowledge and develop an analytical approach, so that you can examine management problems critically from different perspectives and evaluate opposing arguments. You are also encouraged to understand management theory and practice and their implications in the broader social, political and environmental context.

    Your project gives you the opportunity to develop your research skills and to demonstrate that you can integrate your learning from the different areas of your management studies. You are supported by a combination of one-to-one supervision with your project tutor, or group sessions with others on the course, facilitated by a tutor. Alongside this you will also attend research methods seminars.

    Teaching methods

    We offer a varied programme of teaching that includes facilitated seminars, practical workshops, web-based learning, case study analysis and traditional lectures. We also provide sessions by visiting staff, practitioners and consultants to give a varied perspective of the topics covered.

    You will be assessed through a variety of coursework including presentations, reports and projects. You will also be required to complete a dissertation and will be supported by a dissertation supervisor.
