Master Service Science

  • Objectives The MSc Service Science is an innovative degree in Harrow Business School, with the first intake in September, 2008. Service Science is the application and integration of trans-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approaches to service systems and the service economy, within a global perspective.
  • Academic title MSc Service Science
  • Course description The MSc Service Science is a direct entry Master’s Level Degree, which is designed to be taken following graduation from an undergraduate degree. It views service systems as a dynamic value co-creation of resources, which is a complex system. Service systems may also have smaller, internal sub-systems, as well as being in a broader service system or network.

Why are services important? Services dominate employment, with over 75% of the UK and developed world’s economies being services based. The largest labour force migration in human history is underway, driven by global communications, business and technology growth, urbanization and low cost labour. In 2006, the service sector’s share of global employment overtook agriculture for the first time, increasing to 40% versus 38.7% for agriculture, and 21.3% for industry. China has declared a five-year plan to have its economy dominated by services.

The MSc Service Science prepares students for this new vision with its emphasis on international and global business and service science systems and system design. Students submit a 60 credit research project in Service Science, in addition to multi-disciplinary modules covering aspects of global business. The one-year degree has its first intake from September, 2008, with students submitting their dissertation the following September.
