MEng Microelectronics

  • Objectives The Institution of Electrical Engineers accredits all of our courses, and our MEng degree will currently qualify you for immediate full membership of the Institution and satisfies the academic criteria for CEng status. Flexibility is the central feature. You can choose your own degree as your interests develop. Your course will include a major project, modules common to all courses, and specialist modules. At levels 1 and 2 all students follow the same course. You do not need to decide between a BEng or MEng until the end of level 2, when you will have enough knowledge and experience to make an informed decision. Your choice need not be the degree option or specialisation for which you originally registered. The pioneering Sheffield Industrial Project Scheme gives level 2 students the chance to work on real industrial problems. Level 3 builds on your knowledge and applies it to engineering problems. At level 3, you will carry out a major project in direct collaboration with an academic supervisor from one of the department's research groups. This stage extends your experience, with an emphasis on individual project work, in your chosen specialisation. At level 4 you will take modules which increase your knowledge of your chosen area, and optional modules which maintain your breadth of understanding.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements GCE/VCE A Levels - AAB-ABB BTEC National Diploma - 2 Distinctions and 1 Merit including Mathematics Two GCE A Levels plus two GCE AS Levels - AB+AB or BB+AA Scottish Highers - AAAA-AAAB Irish Leaving Cert. - AAABB-AABBB International Baccalaureate - 33 points Core Requirements - GCE A Level Maths and Physics. • Academic title MEng Microelectronics
  • Course description Our students usually select from a range of compulsory and optional modules to add up to 120 credits.

Some departments offer courses that don't feature optional modules whereas other courses are fully flexible.

    Important notice :
This is a list of modules that have been offered in the past. We expect similar modules to be offered for courses starting in 2009.

This information is provided for illustration only and you should check with the department directly when applying to confirm module options.
