MLitt Philosophy (Philosophy of Language & Philosophy of Mind)

  • Course description MLitt: 12 months full-time; 24 months part-time

    This programme exploits the specific research expertise of members of staff and the resources of the Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience. It accommodates those wishing to build on undergraduate study of analytical philosophy so as to acquire a deeper, and more specialised, understanding of contemporary analytical treatments of core problems in philosophy of language and philosophy of mind. In particular, it accommodates those wishing to prepare for doctoral research on a specific philosophical topic pertaining to one of these disciplines.

    Content

    You will take six taught courses and then write a dissertation under supervision.

    The courses taken in the first semester are

        * Research methods (1)
        * Philosophy of language (1)
        * Philosophy of mind (1).


    Those taken in the second semester are

        * Research methods (2)
        * Philosophy of language (2)
        * Philosophy of mind (2).


    Although Research methods (1) and (2) include some general elements, mostly they are philosophy-specific.
