ObjectivesThe course contributes to your professional, intellectual and personal development. The modules are delivered by academics (a number of whom have experience as practitioners), experienced investigators and relevant experts who have published in their field.
Entry requirementsApplicants should normally have a 2.2 honours degree in a relevant field. However, those who have relevant professional qualifications and/or relevant experience will also be considered. Applicants without the normal entry requirements will be required to undertake a skills audit and directed reading before submitting a 2,000-word essay on a related topic.

The programme consists of the core modules Investigation of Homicide and Organised Crime, Underpinning Law and Human Rights, Research Skills and a dissertation in a relevant area of criminal investigation. You will also be able to choose from a number of options dealing with Lawful and Unlawful Killing, Cyber Crime and Computer Investigation, International Criminal Law and Young Offenders and the Criminal Law.

Core modules
Investigation of Homicide and Organised Crime
This module will give you an in-depth understanding of homicide and equivocal death investigation in the UK. You will also develop an in-depth understanding of organised crime in the UK, its international connections and differing law enforcement responses. A case study will give you the opportunity to critically analyse the impact of investigative practices on transnational organised crime.
Underpinning Law and Human Rights
If you already have substantial knowledge of law or law enforcement and procedure, this module will develop your understanding English law sources and the structure of the English legal system.
Research Skills
This module will equip you with the necessary research skills to study effectively at master’s level and complete a dissertation.
