  • Course description This programme cuts through to some key issues in modern tourism. It analyses and evaluates the relationships between gender, tourism and development in different parts of the world.

    During the programme you'll explore the various gendered dimensions of tourism and critique the sexualisation of the tourism industry in different contexts. Lectures, debates and discussions will take you below the surface to the concepts that shape and reflect today's tourism.

    The programme is designed to be relevant and flexible. You can opt for one module to be a work placement. We encourage you to engage with the tourism industry for your project work.

        * Development Theory and Methods

    Stage 2
    Postgraduate Diploma (PgC)

        * Mediatised Tourism Landscapes or Tourism Development Independent Study

    Stage 3
    Masters (MSc)

    Teaching and Assessment

    We use lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops to help you learn. We monitor your progress through essays, examinations, projects, student-led seminars and dissertations.

    Work Experience

    The programme includes residential field visits. In the past these have included Paris, Barcelona, Prague and Dublin. You'll also benefit from the sharing of experiences by guest speakers from the tourism industry.

    Career Opportunities

    Past students from our tourism programmes have gone on to a range of management careers including in attractions, museums and destination marketing. You may also choose to set up a tourist business or go on to research and lecturing.
