MSc-PGDip in Nanotechnology and Nanoelectronic Devices

  • Objectives This programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to understand how nanotechnology can change our lives.
  • Entry requirements The programmes are intended for good honours graduates of mathematics, computing, physical sciences and engineering disciplines. Our normal entry level is a minimum of a Lower Second or equivalent; however, with industrial experience, we can be flexible in our entry requirements.
  • Academic title MSc/PGDip in Nanotechnology and Nanoelectronic Devices
  • Course description Nanotechnology is a term that has captured the imagination of many people ranging from school students to international leaders, and is often used in media reporting of science. To each of these groups it promises different expectations; for example, a cure for cancer, a new source of green energy or the next generation in electronic devices.

Taught by internationally recognised researchers in the field, within the Advanced Technology Institute incorporating the UK's leading centre for nanoelectronic research, the programme includes as its broad theme the practical implementation of nanotechnology in nanoelectronic devices. The programme covers the fundamental science behind nanotechnology and moves on to discuss its implementation, the advanced tools of nanotechnology allowing us to see and manipulate on the nanoscale, before discussing future trends and potential implications. Within the programme practical experience of using state-of-the-art research tools will be gained through participation in an advanced laboratory module and an individual research project. Completion of the programme will provide students with unique skills to further their career in this rapidly emerging field or those related to it.

    Programme length
    12 months full-time, up to 48 months part-time
