Entry requirementsThe programmes are intended for good honours graduates of mathematics, computing, physical sciences and engineering disciplines. Our normal entry level is a minimum of a Lower Second or equivalent; however, with industrial experience, we can be flexible in our entry requirements.

Course descriptionThe University of Surrey is known worldwide for its expertise in satellites, and is famous for its programme of producing small satellites which has now been spun out via Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. The MSc programmes in the satellite area at Surrey have become the major training courses worldwide for tomorrow's satellite professionals. The satellite industry in Europe consists of major operators such as INMARSAT, SES and EUTELSAT, as well as major manufacturers such as EADS-Astrium, Thales-Aleniaspace and a host of smaller manufacturers. In addition, the last few years have seen a host of small companies entering the services and equipment area of satcomms.
The programme has an advisory board comprising representatives of the sector, and students have access to the industry throughout the programme, resulting in excellent employment statistics.
Graduates from the programme are highly sought after by industry, but for those wishing to pursue a research career, the programme provides an excellent springboard to a PhD. The programme modules give a choice in satellite engineering, satellite communications, networking and physical layer aspects, as well as navigation/positioning and remote sensing applications. The modules have practical elements allowing students to practise design, simulation and measurements. In addition, a research project allows the student to concentrate in depth on a chosen area. The project can be done with a University research group or in industry.
