Objectives
You'll be introduced to a range of physiotherapy interventions which are responsive to client need and underpinned by evidence-based approaches to practice, the achievement of which lead to eligibility to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council and membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Entry requirements
Applicants should normally have an honours degree (at least 2.1) in an appropriate related discipline. Applicants must also be eligible for a Department of Health bursary.

Course description
MSc Physiotherapy
This progressive and integrated course incorporates natural sciences, clinical sciences, health policy and research methods. We take a problem-based approach to learning, which includes opportunities to share learning with students from other allied health professions to promote teamwork and an appreciation of how other disciplines contribute to health care.
University based modules:
Clinical Science Modules
These modules will prepare you to contribute to the physiotherapy management of clients with musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological problems. You will be required to build on knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology and behavioural sciences acquired during your first degree.
Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Care
This module will develop your understanding of the relevance and impact of contemporary health policy on your own professional practice.
Designing Research Projects
This module will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to design and manage quantitative and qualitative research projects.
Major Project
Through completion of the Major Project, you will develop enhanced skills in critical appraisal of literature, as well as the ability to plan, implement and evaluate a substantial piece of research.
Practice Based Modules
You will be required to complete 1,000 hours of satisfactory clinical practice. There are seven clinical placements, each of 4 weeks duration.
Course structure
Core modules relate to clinical sciences, contemporary issues in health and social care and research methods. You will be required to complete an 8,000-word dissertation. University-based modules precede practice placements, some of which occur during the summer period. You must complete at least 1,000 hours of satisfactory clinical practice to meet the requirements of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Careers
Graduate physiotherapists play an important role in hospitals, hospices, GP surgeries, the community, occupational settings and private practice. Employment opportunities are available in the UK and overseas.
