  • Objectives To provide the academic content and some practical training for people involved in, or wishing to become involved in, the treatment or management of sex offenders. The academic content is focused on enhancing students’ understanding of the theoretical base that underpins practice.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Normally at least a second class honours degree (normally an upper second) in an appropriate subject (e.g. psychology, social science), or an equivalent relevant professional qualification. In exceptional cases, candidates with relevant experience who can demonstrate an appropriate level of academic ability may be accepted. For the Postgraduate Diploma/MSc candidates should additionally be actively working in the assessment, treatment, management or supervision of sex offenders.

    -Cognitive-Behavioural Theory and Practice
    -Assessment and Treatment of Sex Offenders
    -Practice Assessment and Clinical/Management Skills
    -Prevention and Management of Offending within the Community
    -Research Methods and Dissertation Support Module

    Teaching and assessment methods
    Written assignments are required for all modules. The Practice Assessment and Clinical/Management Skills module also requires submission of a video or a care-plan and self-evaluation work. For MSc candidates a dissertation of 15,000 words is also required. There are also annual optional two day courses at Leicester.
