ObjectivesThese programmes aim to provide students with an overview and awareness of natural resources, their management and sustainable development, and to provide training which enables students to apply the principles of sustainable natural resource management within their own disciplines.
Entry requirementsEntry Requirements An appropriate degree or equivalent professional qualification. Applicants without formal entry qualifications may be admitted depending on their work experience and responsibilities. Applicants for whom English is not a first language must produce evidence of proficiency in English, e.g. by attainment of the British Council language test with a score of 5.5 or above

Course descriptionThese programmes are for students and professionals who wish to acquire improved expertise and knowledge in natural resources. Each programme explores the ways in which developmental needs can be met through better understanding and improved management of renewable natural resources, without placing unsustainable demands on the environment. The emphasis is on tropical applications, the Natural Resources Institute's principal area of expertise.
The programme offers postgraduate studies in four specialist routes:
* Biosecurity Studies
* Plant Health and Protection
* Sustainable Environmental Management
* Sustainable Agriculture
The route taken forms part of the named award on successful completion of the programme, e.g. MSc Natural Resources (Plant Health and Protection).
Applicants for the Master's degree or postgraduate diploma must indicate their preferred specialist area. As well as the optional courses from their chosen specialist area, students may fulfil the requirements of the award by choosing options from other courses available within the programme (subject to timetabling and availability).
The MSc Natural Resources (by Research) is also available for students with the appropriate background and interest in research, fulfilling the requirements for the degree by undertaking an extended research project and a limited number of taught courses.
