Entry requirementsEntrance Requirements Candidates shall register for the PG Certificate. Consideration will be given to graduates who have an Honours degree from a university or college recognised by the University of Stirling, or an equivalent or professional qualification. Consideration will also be given to graduates who have an Ordinary or General degree from a university or college recognised by the University of Stirling, or an equivalent qualification, or who may have extensive experience in aquaculture and/or fisheries.

Course descriptionStructure and Content
For the Postgraduate Certificate, six appropriate modules approved by the Programme Director will normally be taken consecutively over a period not normally exceeding three academic years. A minimum of two modules must be completed per academic year.
The programme modules include aquatic animal biology and health, practical diagnostics, aquatic animals in the environment, aquatic animal nutrition and food safety, reproduction and genetics and diagnostic practice.
Delivery and Assessment
The programme is delivered by blended learning which combines web-based learning materials with practical activities conducted as short sessions either at the Institute of Aquaculture or in your current role.
The six Foundation Modules are assessed by end of module assessments and a final diagnostic case study.
Emphasis is also placed on the development of transferable skills and knowledge in information technology, experimental design and statistics and communication and interpersonal skills. These skills are increasingly important to future employers. Staff from industry and other research institutions also contribute to the programme.

The comprehensive nature of the certificate programme and our close links with UK and overseas industry make progression to all aspects of commercial aquaculture and aquatic animal health regulators possible. The programme is also an excellent grounding for research and further education.
