  • Course description This well-established course is offered as part of an educational route through the Health and Social Care Practice Framework. There are elements of practice-based learning and a specific community-based module. Course content includes discipline, specific principles of practice, teaching and learning strategies, assessment of students in the community, educational/professional debate, communication skills, and the sociology of education.

    Entry requirements

    Normally a degree and three years of community specialist practice experience, although candidates are considered on an individual basis. Applicants are also required to have completed a mentoring course and have mentoring experience. APEL arrangements are possible and will be considered on an individual basis.

    Assessment

    Assessment varies from module to module, and includes assignments, research critiques, clinical evaluations, the presentation of case study analyses and a portfolio.

    The aim of the assessment is to identify and develop students’ critical abilities to apply the theoretical aspects of the course to complex clinical situations and make sound professional judgements, and to operate as competent independent practitioners.
