  • Objectives The aim of this Postgraduate Diploma programme is to provide advanced studies in Chemical Engineering that reflect the broad areas of research expertise and scholarship in the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. In particular, applications in the areas of advanced chemical engineering, computer-aided process engineering and environmental engineering are offered.

    -Relevance to industry is a strong feature of this course, with a high proportion of the teaching staff being chartered engineers and/or having relevant industrial experience, as well as ongoing research links to industry.
    -Many of the projects carried out are sponsored by industry, and industrial sponsorship has been obtained over the years to help improve facilities.
    -The course is designed to meet the requirements of UK-SPEC of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, for students who already hold a BEng from an accredited University and wish to proceed to chartered status.
    -Offering a unique combination of engineering and science skills, the School provides a strong and dynamic environment with close links between research and teaching.
    -All the School’s courses have been rated 'excellent' in teaching quality by outside assessment.

    Course Content
    This course is taught through a series of core and optional modules delivered within the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

    Opportunities exist to specialise through the selection of optional modules as you become more focused in your career plans and development.

    Course Structure

    The Postgraduate Diploma in Chemical Engineering is taught on a full-time basis over nine months, starting in late September.

    You will need to complete a total of 120 credits worth of taught core and optional modules to pass the course. Unlike the Masters in Chemical Engineering, there is no dissertation / project requirement on this course.

    The course utilises an integrated educational approach in which lectures, example classes, laboratories and information technology form key elements.

    We also offer a Masters in Chemical Engineering, which also carries a 60-credit dissertation requirement.
