This 20-week advanced course has been designed to offer the ambitious photographer the opportunity to explore challenging professional camera techniques, develop a greater understanding of creative photography and provide a comprehensive introduction to the commercial world of photography.

Your tutor David Bird, a seasoned practicing photographer with many years international experience will deliver this course through a series of lectures, demonstrations and practical assignments. The course is a live, evolving one, which will demand additional study time, self-motivation and a strong commitment to succeed. You will concentrate and expand on your own personal work and creativity, offering you a wide variety of specialist modules in different fields, with hands on experience to build your skills and gain confidence along the way.

This advanced course for those wishing to take the first steps into the professional industry will commence with mastering your camera and understanding the advanced techniques available to you and how to use them. You will then be presented with several master classes in advanced light techniques for studio and location coursework, including making the most of your own equipment. Through a series of assignments covering popular commercial photographic genres you will study product, fashion, advertising, along with business and social portraiture photography to name but a few. You shall examine the research necessary in setting up photo-shoots, scouting locations/props, sourcing and choosing models, posing techniques and model interaction.

Students will be expected to conduct mid-week assignments including research, as part of your course in which to consolidate your learning and further your creative potential. Your tutor will give an assessment and critique of your work, which shall allow you to further your understanding and strengthen your creativeness. You shall receive instruction and guidance relating to conducting ‘Photography as a Business’, including photography law and how it affects you, marketing, tools, websites and products.
