You should possess the personal qualities necessary to undertake progressive counselling training. You will be interviewed as part of the selection process.

  • Course description The course has been designed to provide students from a range of professional contexts (health professionals, teaching, social work, youth and community work, clergy, probation etc.) with an opportunity to develop a depth of theoretical knowledge in counselling and psychotherapy. A primary focus of the course is to provide the academic foundations essential to the application of a range of helping skills in a variety of professional contexts. Alongside exploring a variety of therapeutic approaches and their related skills base, the course has distinctive emphases in a range of optional modules - cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling supervision, organisational counselling. An additional focus of the course is to develop students' research skills to enable them to objectively evaluate their own practice, and to prepare them to progress to research at Masters level and above.

    Duration and Mode of Attendance

    Full-time: normally 2/3 semesters of study.
    Part-time: normally 4/6 semesters of study.
    Lectures/seminars/skills based laboratory work are scheduled in the evening time two days a week with some modules being offered in block form.
