  • Objectives
    BEng Civil Engineering provides a basic preparation for professional careers in the Built Environment sector (including design, construction, local authority and specialist work) as well as other areas such as project management and finance. We aim to instil not just knowledge of engineering science, but also a base of practical skills, an understanding of design, comprehension of the commercial world and competence in transferable skills (problem solving, team working, creativity, communications and IT). The degree also provides an excellent route for individuals wishing to proceed to postgraduate education as quickly as possible.
  • Entry requirements
    Selected entry requirements English language: Minimum grade C in English Language or equivalent qualification: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550/220. A level: Grades ABB. This should include Mathematics (must include applied element - if not Physics must be offered) and a science (Physics preferred but Chemistry, Biology or Engineering Science also acceptable). Two AS-levels of equivalent grade are acceptable in place of a third A-level. General Studies is not accepted. Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications. Unit grades will not normally form part of offer conditions, except for Mathematics programmes. GCSE: Minimum grade C in English Language. Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University.
