Objectives
This course develops knowledge and skills in electronics and music technology, and the course supports a range of career opportunities in the electronics and sound production industries. If you have skills or a real interest in electronics applied to the field of music technology, but do not necessarily have a music qualification this could be the course for you. It provides a solid grounding in both electronics and audio technology and addresses music technology in the context of the music studio, together with the use of computers for music and sound production. You will have access to well equipped electronic project laboratories and studio facilities for live recording and post-production to allow skills development for project work. You will also have access to music workstation suites, where you will develop skills with the hardware and software used for the creation of computer-generated music and sound. We also teach programming in several forms to provide the necessary technical underpinning and skills base for employment opportunities in a range of application areas.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements 220-260 points from 6/12-unit awards plus Mathematics GCSE MMP from National Diploma in a relevant subject and Mathematics GCSE. Successful completion of Engineering Foundation course.

Course description
Course Structure
In the first year you will study a range of topics which provide a firm foundation for later years, including electronics, concert hall, location and studio recording, audio technology maths applications and circuits and object-oriented programming for music technology.
The second year will deepen and broaden your technical knowledge and will help you focus on your future career aspirations. Technical topics studied include audio electronics, embedded systems for music technology, studio recording and digital electronics.
Your optional third year will be spent in supervised paid employment with a company gaining an understanding of the electronics and technology industries. The experience gained during the placement year has been shown to be invaluable for future employment prospects.
In the final year, you will undertake a major individual project on a topic of relevance to your chosen career path. This will enable you to apply the technical and practical skills gained throughout the course. Technical topics available in Year 4 include digital and analogue systems integration, DSP applications, Windows programming for audio and MIDI, audio electronics and creative programming.
