    Selected entry requirements A level: The School normally requires three A-levels, two of which must be in science or science-related subjects with minimum grades CCC. Two AS-levels in place of one A-level will normally be accepted. NVQ Level 3 Oral Health Care acceptable in lieu of one A level. Unit grade information: The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications. Unit grades will not normally form part of offer conditions, except for Mathematics programmes. GCSE: Five subjects, grade C or above. Must include either Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Double Award Science; English Language and Mathematics. Key Skills qualification: The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University. International baccalaureate: 27 points overall. 5,5,5 in the Higher Level subjects (including two sciences). 4,4,4 in the Standard Level subjects.     Course description
    This undergraduate programme has been developed to give students the skills they need to become dental therapists or dental hygienists and helps provide a holistic approach to primary dental care.

    Students will be trained to undertake a number of clinical procedures, such as periodontal treatment, simple fillings, dental radiographs and the extraction of primary teeth. They will also develop excellent communication skills, to motivate and encourage patients to develop good oral health practices.

    The programme provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to offer clinical care to patients to the standards required by the General Dental Council (GDC).

    Course content for year 1
    Year one of the programme gives students the knowledge and skills to begin to manage patients in a clinical setting. The following subjects are covered:

    -Basic Sciences
    -Human Diseases
    -General Dentistry
    -Behavioural Sciences
    -Basic Clinical Skills, including patient contact

    Course content for year 2
    Year two builds on the clinical skills developed in the first year with the study of Dental Radiography and Restorative Dentistry.

    Course content for year 3
    The third and final year of the programme focuses on integrating the clinical skills developed so far with more complex treatment plans. Students also complete an orthodontic module and carry out a research project.
