  • Objectives
    The MA in Education and Democracy is an interdisciplinary programme which combines study in education, political science and other related areas. It has been developed in response to a globally renewed interest in education for democratic citizenship, human rights and political education, and sustainable development education. The programme will; * offer participants an opportunity to explore contemporary educational and political challenges in a changing world * examine human rights principles as an underpinning for citizenship at local, national and international levels * develop knowledge and skills at the interface of education and politics * develop knowledge and skills relevant to careers in inter-governmental organisations, non-governmental organisations and related fields

    This innovative programme is designed for graduate students and experienced professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of education for democratic citizenship. It will be of particular interest to those responsible for developing citizenship education curricular and policies for schools and to those interested in careers in transnational organisations such as UNESCO, the European Commission and the Council of Europe. It is designed to meet the needs of students from recently established democracies (for example, in Central and Eastern Europe or Latin America), from nation-states currently taking steps towards democracy, as well as those from established democracies.
