  • Course description
The Film and Visual Cultures MA  enables you to develop a specialism within Communication, Culture and Media (CCM) studies in the analysis of key visual representations: the codes, styles, meanings, visual languages and genres framing our visually dominated culture and media. By choosing appropriate modules from within the CCM postgraduate programme and by undertaking an in-depth research project, students explore the texts and artefacts of diverse film traditions, alongside those of television, advertising, photography and wider visual cultures (e.g. multimedia, art and architecture). You will engage with cutting-edge ideas, rigorous methods and innovative theoretical frameworks. It enables students to examine and engage with ‘the visual’, intellectually and through production, in the context of analysis and/or professional practice.

    Future prospects

This MA will be attractive to those seeking or wishing to enhance careers in: media research, the cultural and creative industries, creative media practice and education, as well as those having ambitions for further academic/intellectual enquiry and research within this field.
