    Entry requirements Typical minimum entry qualifications for the course include: An appropriate BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Science AVCE in Science, one 'A' level pass in a Science subject, any qualification deemed to be equivalent to the above. Mature students who do not hold the minimum entry requirements will be considered if there is evidence that they are likely to benefit from the course.

    General information

    The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Biomedical Science is a two-year full-time course, which has been designed in collaboration with the University of Greenwich to provide students with an opportunity to study and develop appropriate vocational skills. The course is closely linked with the corresponding degree pathway of the University of Greenwich, and successful students may transfer to the University at the end of their course to study for the award of BSc. Transfer will normally be to year two of the degree course. In addition, students who achieve merit grades will be offered the opportunity to transfer directly to year two of the degree at the end of the first year of the HND.

        * Fundamental Biology of Cells & Microbes
        * Basic Chemistry for Life Sciences
        * Skills for Science
        * Practical & Study Skills
        * Control Processes in Biology
        * Physiological Processes and Process Technology
        * Biological Molecules
        * Introductory Biomedical Science
        * Practical Unit.  

    Stage 2:

        * Physiological Systems & Regulation
        * Bioenergetics & Metabolism
        * Work Experience or Industrial Studies
        * Laboratory Unit Project
        * Cell Biology
        * Biology of Disease
        * Practical Unit.

    Teaching and assessment

    Assessment is via assignments, practical work, phase tests and examination.
