Información

We are a new and expanding School at the University of Reading. The School is made up of distinct academic departments and the Centre for Applied Language Studies. Within the departments of Applied Linguistics, French Studies, German Studies, Italian Studies, European Studies and European Literature and Culture we combine studies of modern languages and English language with history, politics, and culture. Our undergraduate courses offer huge flexibility in their combinations within the School and outside. Our postgraduate courses too, offer opportunities to study across a wide range of disciplines as well as specific areas.

We have a strong research profile, which includes the 5* RAE awarded Italian Studies department. In collaboration with Schools of Humanities and Arts and Communication Design, we lead a University research theme on Modern European Histories and Cultures building on our research strengths in a number of significant areas.

The School's Centre for Applied Language Studies offers Pre-Sessional programmes in English for academic study to international students, the In-sessional English Support Programme, supporting non-native English speakers during their studies, as well as the Institution Wide Language Programme, providing foreign language study opportunities to the University community.
