    The wide range of interests within the Department is reflected in the flexibility of the law degree and the broad range of courses available to students. A law degree equips students with the academic skills required for a career as a solicitor or barrister and also opens the door to a number of other career options. You will find that we also offer a cosmopolitan, friendly and supportive environment in which to study this fascinating subject.
  • Entry requirements
    Entry Requirements * A/AS levels: Three A levels are normally required. Two AS levels considered in place of one A level, other than in French for the LLB/Maîtrise. General Studies accepted. * French Law and Language: A level French (or equivalent) required. * LLB/Maîtrise: A level French (or equivalent) required. * LLB Senior Status: A University Degree from a recognised and certified institution, equivalent to an undergraduate degree from a British University with an overall average of a high 2.2 or equivalent. Applications from other countries are welcome. * GCSE: English language strongly preferred. * Access to HE courses: Pass, with at least the requisite credits at Level 3 (including French for the Law with French Degrees). * European Baccalaureate: Pass with 80% overall (including an 8 in French for the Law with French degrees). * International Baccalaureate: Pass Diploma with 36 points, including two 6s at Higher Level, 36 points and 6 at HL French (or 5 if French is taken as a mother tongue) for the Law with French degrees. * French Baccalaureate: Pass with 14 points overall. * Cypriot Apolytirion: Either 19/20, or 18.5/20 and BB or equivalent at A level, plus an English language qualification. Grade A in French as above for Law with French degrees. * Leicestershire Progression Accord: AAB plus full Accord credits, plus French proficiency, as above, for Law with French degrees. * BTEC Nationals: DDD, plus any subject/GCSE requirements. * Other qualifications: Other national and international qualifications welcomed. * Mature students welcomed: Alternative qualifications considered. * Second Year Entry: Not normally possible.

    Programme

    First Year

    In the first year you will study subjects that will introduce you to English law and to the French legal system. You will take a French language course to develop your oral and written skills.

        * Introduction to the French Legal System
        * Modern French language

    Second Year

    In the second year you continue to study a mixture of English law, French law and French language. French law classes in the first and second year are taught in French by French native speakers.

        * European Union Law • Law of Tort
        * French Legal Studies
        * Modern French Language

    Third Year - Study Abroad

    Your third year is spent studying French law at one of the following leading Universities: Strasbourg, Lyon or Paris-Sud. UK/EU students do not have to pay tuition fees for this year abroad.

    Fourth Year

    In the fourth year you will return to Leicester where you will study English law, one French language course and Legal Translation. A wide range of options is offered within the Department.
