    The MA in Composition is a specialist degree designed to further the technical and creative skills of student composers.

    Entrance Requirements Normally a 2:1 degree in Music with evidence of sufficient background in composition. Additional Information for International Students Minimum English language requirements – IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 575 or equivalent.

  • Course description
    Course Content
    The course consists of three required single modules – Research Methods, Words and Music, Set Works Post 1945 – and a double module, Composition Portfolio.

    A further single module from the MA in Music or the MA in Sonic Arts is selected in consultation with the pathway convenor – Single Composition is an option.

    Assessment
    A mixture of seminar presentations and written or analytical/compositional projects for the single modules; a portfolio of compositions for the double module.

    Funding
    AHRC, British Academy, limited university funding.
