The MA in German Studies seeks to balance the established research expertise of staff with the career requirements and academic interests of postgraduate students. It is designed to enable students to deepen their knowledge of one or more specialist areas of study.
Entrance Requirements The usual entrance qualification is a good honours degree in German or a cognate subject, although equivalent qualifications and experience may be considered. Additional Information for International Students An IELTS score of 6.5 and TOEFL score of 575 on paper and 233 on computer.
MA in German
The MA is modular in structure, and students will be expected to complete six modules (four taught modules and a dissertation which is the equivalent of two modules).
The modules on offer are as follows:
-Aspects of the German Post War Novel
-Culture and Politics in the Weimar Republic
-Reading Modern German Poetry
-Research Methods (compulsory module)
-Space and Time in German Literary and Visual Representation
-The Carnivalesque in German Literature, Drama and Film
-20th Century German Music and its Audiences
Dissertation (compulsory double module)
Not all of these modules will be available in any one year.
Modules are normally assessed by written assignments/ coursework/ dissertation.
