    The MA in Performance Studies provides advanced training for singers, pianists and string players.
  • Entry requirements
    Entrance Requirements Normally a 2:1 with Music as a main subject. Applicants must also pass an audition which demonstrates 2.1 Bachelor Degree level performance skills in voice, piano, piano accompaniment or strings. Applicants must also submit an extended essay (ca. 3,500 words) in which two recorded performances of a work performed at audition are evaluated, compared and contextualised. This essay must be at least 2.1 Bachelor Degree equivalent in standard.

    Course Content

    The course consists of four required single modules – Research Methods, Independent Study (Recital Project), Independent Study (Academic Portfolio), Dissertation (Lecture Recital), plus a single module from the MA in Music programme.

    Assessment

    A mixture of written or analytical projects for the single modules;
    a recital/lecture for the Portfolio (double) module.

    Funding
    DEL, AHRC, British Academy, limited university funding.
