    To deepen understanding of contemporary issues in political studies within a context of maximum student choice.

    Entrance Requirements Normally at least an upper second class honours degree or equivalent in politics or a related subject. Additional Information for International Students Students require an IELTS Certificate (6.5 or above) or equivalent.

    Course Content
    Students currently take four taught modules drawn from those offered within the other MA programmes in Politics:

    -Approaches to Social Science Research
    and one of:
    -Approaches to European Integration and Public Policy
    -Approaches to International Politics
    -Governance and Constitutionalism in World Politics
    -The European Union: Institutions, Processes and Policy
    -The Nature of Ethnicity and Ethnic Conflict
    -The Politics of Northern Ireland
    -Political Theories of Equality

    and two of:
    -Beyond the Nation: Culture, Identity and Contemporary Political Theory
    -Conflict Intervention
    -Issues in European Governance
    -International Security
    -National and Ethnic Conflict Management
    -Northern Ireland and the World
    -The Politics of the Republic of Ireland
    -The Theory and Politics of Globalisation

    And a dissertation of no more than 15,000 words.

    Examination and continuous assessment.

    This degree qualifies for DEL funding but any eligible candidate wanting to be considered for such an award must apply before 1 April in any year.

    Special Features
    It is also possible to study for a Diploma in each of the areas covered by the MA programmes. The Diploma is constructed around the coursework elements of the MA programmes. On successful completion of the coursework, it is possible to complete the dissertation for an award of MA.

    All of the MA programmes offered in the School provide an appropriate basis for those who wish to proceed to doctoral study. In addition, our graduates go on to a wide range of careers in both the private and public sectors.
