  • Objectives
    The course will have strong emphasis on the study of film (cinema, television and moving image related) practices, with a chief aim being to document and describe new knowledge and historic knowledge of practices in related industry and film arts. The strong taught component is fundamentally informed by the notion of combined theory and practice. Appropriate research methodology will allow students to initiate, develop and analyse by intervention with practitioners (in workplace environments and as visitors). The London College of Communication has been designated as a Screen Academy by Skillset and the UK Film Council.
  • Entry requirements
    Applicants will be expected to have a good undergraduate degree and or commensurate experience in industry, film arts practice, technology, museum or cinema exhibition or festivals, visual anthropologists etc. They should have some technical proficiency in at least one area of film practice

    Structure

    Areas of the film industry which will be explored include:

    -Craft areas of directing
    -Producing
    -Production design
    -Cinematography
    -Sound design
    -Editing
    -Animation
    -Visual and special effects
    -Costume and make-up and related areas of business
    -Cultural and technological invention in documentary and fiction forms will be explored

    The course will examine practical, cultural, ethical, and theoretical contexts in which film is produced, distributed and critiqued.  The course will access research institutions, industry guilds, companies and archives, in both public and private sectors.
