    A course for practitioners in counselling, social work, nursing, professions allied to medicine, education and other human services. Some modules will be available largely by distance learning and independent study with minimal attendance required (e.g. 2 half days) at the University. Others will be taught in weekly sessions over one or two terms at the University, starting late afternoons and finishing in the evening.

    Course content
    Reflection is essential for effective professional practice. A growing body of research indicates that different ways of harnessing reflection is vital for professional development, especially in those fields where working with people is at the core. The masters will be flexible enough to accommodate a range of professionals working in any area of counselling, social services, health, education, management and similar fields.

    Students’ learning will be enhanced by the multi-disciplinary basis of the teaching team and the student group. A programme for practitioners in counselling, social work, nursing, professions allied to medicine, education and other human services.

    Assessment
    Compulsory core modules will be in reflective practice and in research, leading to a final dissertation. There will be no exams and most of the assessment will be via self-directed course work.

    Students will be expected to identify a topic for their final project early in their first year of study. Participants will have a range of choice modules and the option to negotiate a module linked to their subject of interest.
