  • Objectives
    The chance to spend a year creating and studying theatre and performance in contemporary contexts. Taught primarily in the department's Theatre Workshop and studio spaces. Students engage in seminars, practical workshops and performances designed to explore significant aspects of the history and the practice of making performance in the 20th and 21st centuries. Our Theatre Workshop is a large and fully-equipped performance area with excellent facilities, and we have access to two rehearsal studios and a theatre.
  • Entry requirements
    Entry/language requirements At least 2:1 or international equivalent in a first degree in English, or a combined degree including a substantial element of English. If English is not your first language, we normally require an overall IELTS score of at least 7.5, normally with at least 7 in each component. For TOEFL we normally expect a minimum score of 630, with a Test of Written English score of 5. Applicants who have taken the computer-based TOEFL test must normally achieve an overall score of 267 with an essay-writing score of at least 5. The TOEFL IBT test score has to be 113 or above.

    Four modules plus dissertation of either 15,000 words or 9,000 words plus practice as research presentation:

    -Theatre and Society I
    -Theatre and Society II
    -Theatre Practice as Research
    -The Historiography of Post-War British Theatre

    Assessment
    -Essays
    -coursework
    -15,000-word dissertation.
