  • Course description
Marine Engineering is the practice of engineering on marine structures of all types.

The challenges arising from the management of very expensive, complex, floating engineering systems in a truly global arena, incorporates some very challenging variables. These include: Direct and often adverse effects of the natural elements; the human factor that often includes individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and educational backgrounds; and engineering equipment that is expected to perform uninterruptedly, remote from any external expert support and whose failure can directly lead to loss of life, substantial loss of property and damage to the environment.

Furthermore, the complex national and international regulatory environment, in place to safeguard against maritime adventures, requires that the marine engineering practitioner – on board and ashore – is capable of mastering a wide range of knowledge and skills, based not only on sound engineering principles and experience, but also drawing intellectual resources from many other areas of interest.

This programme offers marine engineering graduates and technology practitioners, already in possession of the fundamental technical knowledge and skills, additional tools required in order to successfully assume their responsibilities as the individuals in charge of the technical management of vessels and fleets.
