Course description
MA
One year full-time, two years part-time
Course description
This course is intended to allow you to pursue a supervised research project at Masters level. Its primary function is to prepare you for PhD level work in linguistics, although it serves as a full Masters degree in its own right. The project should be in an area for which we can offer supervision (sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, discourse analysis, grammatical theory including phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics and the relations between them).
Course content
You will work in close contact with your supervisor on a research project of your choice, and take part fully in the graduate life of the department, including reading groups and departmental seminars. You will be required to attend a series of subject-specific and general research skills sessions.
Assessment
Assessment is by a 20,000-25,000-word dissertation, which is externally examined by an expert in the relevant area. A viva may be required.
