The MBA in Financial Studies specifically aims to develop the essential management skills required in finance and related services to meet and participate in the increasingly international business environment. It builds upon the essential core management modules allowing greater emphasis in elective modules on the financial aspects of management. This course will provide you with instruction in the creation, operation and management of business in the private and public sectors, and offers a combination of conceptual knowledge, technical skills, problem analysis and personal development appropriate to the modern business environment. The programme involves participation in group work with course members from many different industrial, commercial, geographical and cultural backgrounds, and is aimed at improving the decision making abilities of participants and producing managers of the highest quality. This course is offered at the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee campus in the UK or at our campus in Malaysia. In addition, the course can be taken on a part-time basis in Singapore as a result of a collaboration between the University and TUV SUD Asia Pacific.

-We regularly review and update our MBA programmes to ensure that their content is relevant to the changing global business environment
You will study the following core modules in order to develop your knowledge and skills in fundamental management disciplines within the context of issues relating to financial studies:
-Accounting and Finance
-Financial and Monetary Economics
-Management Information Systems
-The elective subjects will permit you to concentrate in-depth on more specific subjects according to your individual interests and career requirements.
-Our top class faculty includes leading specialists in finance, entrepreneurship, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, operations management, and risk and insurance. Therefore, we offer elective modules in these areas and many more.
French, German, Spanish and Japanese are offered as non-examined options for students who wish to advance their business language skills.
A fundamental part of your development as a manager is participation in group work. Our approach to management training is that the most effective way to accelerate learning and management skills is to work with talented peers from many different professional and cultural backgrounds, combined with close interaction with the academic staff.
Finally, you will be asked to choose to write and be assessed on either a management project on a business topic of your choice, or a group management project (with an individual critique/analysis).
The MBA includes the opportunity of an internship – this offers an exciting challenge and the chance to develop your potential and focus your MBA on your career goals. Your internship experience can make a big difference to your post-MBA career, and your CV stands out, showing that you can put theory into practice.
Many organisations use internships to assess the potential of new employees. Several Nottingham MBAs have been offered jobs with the business they have worked for, while others found that an internship is an ideal way of gaining exposure to a new sector.
The Nottingham internship enables you to work on a project in the UK or overseas.
We work in partnership with leading multinational companies such as Alliance Boots, E.ON, Experian, and Rolls-Royce, as well as with small and medium-sized enterprises, financial services, and not-for-profit organisations, and creative industries.
Internships take place during the summer and usually last about ten weeks. You can work individually or as part of a group, and are supervised by an academic member of the Nottingham University Business School who specialises in your area. You will also have a mentor from the company you are working with.
The findings from the internship are then written up into your MBA Management Project which counts as 60-credits towards your MBA.
The full-time MBA in Financial Studies consists of a set of core modules, a wide choice of elective modules, and a management project or group project; it is taught over one year, full-time.
The core subjects ensure that all participants study essential areas of management.
The elective modules and the management project or project allow you to build on these fundamental areas and tailor-make your own version of the Nottingham MBA.
The semester based part-time MBA is very flexible and can be spread over two to four years. This flexibility allows you to fit the MBA around your work and other commitments.
Core modules are usually offered twice during an academic year, once during the day and once in the evening. To facilitate part-time working, most elective modules are offered in the evening every two to three years. Some elective modules are offered in a one-week intensive course, plus project work.
Part-time course members take the same core modules and have the same choice of electives as full-time MBAs.
Each module is usually examined by assessed course work and/or a two-hour exam held after the end of the relevant semester.
Course members can usually choose up to two elective modules from the School's other MBA programmes.
The final stage of the MBA involves an individual management project or a group consultancy project with an individual management report.
This course is offered at the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee campus in the UK or at our campus in Malaysia. In addition, the course can be taken on a part-time basis in Singapore as a result of a collaboration between the University and TUV SUD Asia Pacific.
