  • Course description
    Programme

TESOL is a dynamic, challenging and fun programme that will improve teaching skills through greater professional knowledge and enhanced confidence. It is useful for EFL teachers, teacher trainers, head teachers and materials/curriculum/policy designers.

This programme will enable TESOL teachers to train other TESOL teachers; work in management of TESOL education; combine TESOL with Business and Information and Communication Technology (ICT); specialise in TESOL for Young Learners; and develop research skills.

    Learning Outcomes

On completion, participants should be able to appraise critically English language teaching practice, be able to reflect on their professional knowledge with regard to the appropriateness of its application in a range of educational contexts and be able to design, implement and evaluate substantial research or development tasks.

Overall, participants should be able to modify their own practice of TESOL and teacher education for TESOL in the light of developing theory and changing conditions in which they have to operate.

    How You Will Be Taught

The MEd TESOL can be studied in contact mode (12 months full time or 72 months part time) or in split-delivery mode (20 months). Both consist of taught components (lectures, tutorials, workshops) and a 15,000-word dissertation. Students taking the split-delivery mode study four courses over two summers, two courses via e-learning and continue with the dissertation.+
