  • Academic title
    MLitt Dramaturgy & Playwriting
  • Course description
MLitt: 12 months full-time (also available part time)

This programme offers you an active engagement in defining the role of the dramaturge in contemporary theatre practice as well as facilitating an exploration of playwriting as a craft. By combining dramaturgy and playwriting, the programme encourages you to explore both aspects of this professional work, aspects that often combine and interact when dramaturges create adaptations or playwrights write for companies that devise and make physical work alongside the text. By the end of this programme you will have developed dramaturgical skills and professional experience as a basis for your continued work in the field of theatre as a dramaturge or dramaturge/playwright.

The programme builds on the expertise and experience of the academic staff of the Department of Theatre, Film & Television Studies and benefits from strong links with the professional theatre industry, making use of professional tutors and secondment within the context of a rigorous and well-supported framework of study. You will work with a range of part-time tutors, mostly professional theatre makers based within Scotland.
