    Entry Requirements: An honours degree in aeronautical or aerospace engineering although other applicants with a relevant engineering degree will be considered.
  • Academic title
    MSc Aeronautical Engineering
  • Course description
    The MSc Aeronautical Engineering programme is ideal for graduates seeking employment in the aeronautical sector and for practicing engineers from the aerospace industries who wish to extend and update their skills.

    The University has recently invested over £500,000 in facilities for our aeronautical awards; this includes laboratory equipment including a gas turbine engine, wind tunnel upgrade and a flight simulator.

    The award is designed as a progression from undergraduate studies and you will have access to state of the art engineering analysis software. An important aspect for employment of postgraduate engineers is the progression to management and these skills are developed within the award. In addition, students are encouraged to develop a deeper awareness of wider issues that impinge on the aeronautical industry such as the environment and safety.

    The dissertation allows you to research a specific aeronautical engineering topic to illustrate your depth of knowledge, critical awareness and problem solving skills.

    We have comprehensive links with industry through our Industrial Panel which includes representatives from major industry companies including BAMC, Storm, GE, Nordam Europe, TES and BA Avionics.

    Course Content

    The programme contains the following modules:

        * Aircraft Materials
        * Aircraft Propulsion
        * Finite Element Analysis
        * Computational Fluid Dynamics
        * Heat Transfer and Combustion
        * Monitoring & Control
        * Safety Engineering
        * Integrated Project Planning & Management
        * Dissertation

    How To Study

    The course modules will primarily be delivered by means of lectures, with appropriate tutorials and practical laboratory work. Taught modules are assessed by either continually assessed coursework or by a mixture of coursework and exams. The dissertation has three elements of assessment: a thesis, a poster presentation and a viva voce.

    Career prospects

    Aeronautical Engineering graduates are highly valued and are currently in immense demand. With the growth in air travel, the demand for highly skilled engineering professionals outstrips supply. It is predicted that employment prospects will remain buoyant so there’s never been a better time to join such an exciting and extensive industry.

    The specialist knowledge gained on this course prepares students from any background for careers in the aeronautical industry. Graduates with an MSc Aeronautical Engineering degree enhance their career opportunities in commercial and military aircraft engineering, the air transportation industry, teaching, or research. The highly technical nature of this course also equips you for careers in many other related technology-intensive fields.Graduates are likely to go on to occupy senior positions in the aeronautical engineering industry and related sectors.
