Course description
Programme
The programme focuses on the provision of postgraduate-level expertise for the detection, monitoring, prediction and spatial representation of forest attributes relevant for forest conservation and management. You will gain specific expertise in topics such as environmental change, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, forest biomass, timber yield, and their remote sensing and spatial representation in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. A flexible background will be provided on the structure, functions and dynamics of forest ecosystems and the role of forest management.
Learning Outcomes
Students who follow this programme will:
* gain an understanding of the functioning and dynamics of forest ecosystems;
* become familiar with the major remote-sensing approaches used to monitor forests;
* understand how to represent forest properties in a GIS environment;
* develop their research skills in the general area of global change and forests.
How You Will Be Taught
A combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, assignments, field trips, a study tour and a dissertation project
