    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS * Entry to the MSc Management is open to those possessing an Honours degree or equivalent. Students possessing an Ordinary degree can apply to enrol on the Postgraduate Diploma and, on successful completion, transfer to the MSc programme. This programme is particularly suitable for graduates whose study of management and business has been limited. It is, therefore, suitable for graduates of all disciplines. Applicants with relevant equivalent qualifications or professional experience will also be considered.

  • Course description
    This Masters programme provides a broad introduction to the range of business and management disciplines for recent or new graduates. Students follow an integrated programme that provides them with expertise in accounting and finance, strategy, marketing, human resources and change management as well as the skills required to manage effectively in organisations.

    Graduates of the MSc programme will:

        * understand the nature of management, the complexity of 21st century organisations and how to manage change effectively
        * be able to apply techniques from a range of specialist disciplines such as finance and accountancy, business strategy, marketing, HRM as well as more generic techniques, such as managerial decision-making
        * be able to apply a range of personal and interpersonal skills which are the hallmarks of managers. These include leadership, communication, negotiation, teamwork and report-writing skills
        * have gained critical, analytical problem-based learning skills and the transferable skills to prepare them for a career in management
        * have a systematic understanding of the functions and future developments of the role of the manager in both a UK and international context
        * have a critical awareness of the role of the manager in local, national and international organisations and how this may vary in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors

        * Managing Business Organisation*
        * Advanced Management Theory
        * Financial Resources*
        * Research Methods*

    *these are 10 point modules

    Students should also select ONE of the following option modules:

        * International & Global Marketing
        * Marketing Communications
        * Knowledge Management & the Organisation
        * Leadership & Change

    Students who proceed to the MSc will be required to complete a dissertation. The aim of the dissertation is to enable students to gain a deeper understanding of organisations and of the practical difficulties and problems faced by managers. Each student will be allocated a supervisor who will advise on the selection of the dissertation topic.

    Career Prospects

    Upon graduation students will possess the theoretical knowledge, as well as the practical skills, needed to succeed as managers in the increasingly competitive job market. Their learning experience is further enhanced by the use of real-life case studies and techniques such as group work and presentations.
