    Programme content
    This internationally-recognised course has been designed to meet the educational needs created by the ever-increasing challenges facing occupational health and safety practitioners. The modules have been designed to enable development of the intellectual and analytical skills appropriate for Health and Safety professionals in the 21st century, and address:

    -Setting the Context: Historical and current attitudes, policies and social structures, the size of the problem of occupational injury and ill health
    -Nature of risk, and subjective and objective assessments
    -Risks of disease vis a vis risks of injury
    -Design and manufacture of work equipment and systems
    -Self-Regulation as a fundamental tenet of injury and illness prevention at work
    -State Regulation, through legislation, codes of practise and the activities of the enforcement agencies

    After successfully completing the taught modules, you then undertake a 15,000-word research dissertation to complete the MSc degree. If you decide not to continue onto the dissertation, on leaving the course at this stage, you can be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health.

    The Occupational Safety & Health course involves lectures, case studies, assignments and seminars. There is a strong emphasis on students discussing and exchanging their own professional experiences with the programme team and invited specialist speakers.

    Assessment
    One of the taught modules has a 'seen' examination. The remainder of the course is continually assessed through submission of assignments.

    Entry Requirements
    -A Bachelor's degree with honours in Environmental Health, Health and Safety, or others where occupational safety and health subjects are studied to an appropriate level as part of the course
    -An ordinary degree, HNC or HND with 3 years relevant experience
    -We welcome applications from students with alternative qualifications and/or significant relevant experience, subject to approval through a process of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL).
    -International students must provide evidence of proficiency in English - IELTS 6.0 band score or a score of TOEFL 550 or above (213 computer based) with a TWE of 4.0 are proof of this

    Duration

    Full-time: 12 months
    Part-time: 24 months
