    Entry requirements English language requirements: A pass at GCSE level in English Language (grade C or above). International students must have an English language qualification at a suitable level, for example IELTS 6.0 or equivalent Academic entry requirements: A minimum UK Upper Second Class (2.1) honours degree or equivalent in an appropriate numerate discipline (usually Electronic Engineering or Physics, but others may be considered). However in some special cases, if places are still available, applicants with a good lower class-second (2.2) honours degree may also be considered, and so should not be deterred from applying.

  • Course description
    This is a brand new course which is derived directly from the research of the highly successfully world-class research Institute of Microwaves and Photonics (IMP). In recent years the research of the IMP has developed to included high frequency (terahertz) sources and systems, quantum optoelectronics (including infrared and terahertz lasers and photodetectors), molecular and bio-nanoelectronics. The institute has invested heavily in its laboratories including a new cleanroom and semiconductor growth facility, a world-class terahertz laboratory and state-of-the art high frequency test and measurement facilities. All the internationally recognized research leaders in the IMP have come together to develop this co-ordinated educational programme to develop tomorrow’s scientists and engineers who will drive forward future innovation in the electronics and communications industries.
